Chris Oakley is an artist working in film, digital imaging and installation. His interest in use of mass media is motivated by their potential to be used in opposition to mainstream narratives, as critical tools to explore the power structures from which these technologies emerge.

His work explores power as exercised through media and technology; the ways in which technology modifies our experiences of the world; how it acts as a mediating and transforming influence on our consciousness.  Direct experience of the world requires validation through recording, editing, and sharing as digital content to achieve a social value, and how this sharing itself is co-opted as a tool by corporate and political powers.

He has exhibited since the late nineties at cinemas, galleries, and film festivals. His works have been exhibited in shows including ZKM Karlsruhe’s touring exhibition Global Control and Censorship, (2015-2019), Rasterfahndung, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (2012).
